Kate walked into Stark Towers heading for the elevator and up to the lab after she had asked Mr. Stark was in after everything that had happened in World War III and as of now the only living Young Avenger left alive she was hoping Tony would let her join the Avengers. It would be kind of weird to be a part of a team where all its members but herself where killed in the war.
Kate walked out of the elevator and down the hall looking in all the windows trying to find Tony she wouldn't have bothered him if she could find Captain America but every where she asked no ones seen him since the war. So she was here looking for the second in command which she found in the last lab she looked in working on his suit. Kate walked in watching Tony work he looked like he hadn't slept in days. "Mr. Stark?" She asked after a while.

Tony had been in his lab for the last few days working on his suit again it was only thing at the moment that was keeping sane after he came back from the war everything had changed he had changed a lot. This was nothing like the past two world wars for one just about every superhero took part in it and two the bad guys this time around had nuclear war heads behind them and many of the weapons from Stark Enterprises and that bothered him a lot if not more to see first hand what his weapons had done to all those people and the hero's.
Tony looked up from what he was doing when he heard his name "Katherine? what brings you here today?" He asked looking at the Young Avenger.

Pepper had permitted the young Katherine access to the house against her better judgment. Anyone could tell Tony was still fresh from the war - at least in mental and emotional capacity. Pepper herself had taken measures to step very lightly around him, subtly canceling appointments and benefits, informing everyone quite frankly that Tony had just come back from war and was not exactly up to social interaction. She doubted Tony realized what she was doing, but it didn't matter to her. What mattered was giving him time to slow down, unwind, and think.
War had changed Tony Stark. She'd known that the moment she laid eyes on him as he headed for the limousine to drive back to Stark Towers. It had done something to him, mentally. She remembered she'd had Happy stop by and grab a small army of cheeseburgers and handed him the entire bag. At that immediate moment, riding back in the car, she hadn't known what else to do. Because all she knew was what imprisonment by the Ten Ring hadn't been able to accomplish - this war had.
She stepped carefully down the stairs, holding a coffee cup and her day planner. She wondered what she would see when she got down there. Tony Stark, working and talking? Or the Iron Man, suiting up to take out some of his suppressed rage?

"I was wondering if the Avengers where still around that I could join the them. I'm sure you know all the other Young Avengers had been killed..." She trailed off as she watched Pepper come in with a coffee cup and her day planner. "I wouldn't have bothered you if I knew where Cap was I haven't seen him since the war." She said as she took her sunglasses off and put them on top of her head.

"I'm not the one who you should be talking about joining the Avengers I left the team before the war started and as for Steve I haven't seen him either." Tony said not sounding to bother by the fact that his best friend is missing and could be among the other fallen hero's who had died in the war. "Is there anything else you need?" He asked as he was about to go back to work when he noticed Pepper coming in "If there is a meeting or someone else wanting to see me I'm not here." He told her as he began working again.

Pepper nodded and set the coffee cup on the table. "I was actually coming down to inform you that I've cleared your schedule for the afternoon at least, but Gerald Clovis is absolutely insisting you meet him for dinner at seven and he'll foot the bill. I was going to tell him that you are too tired, unless you feel the need for some actual food?" She was already hitting letters on her PDA, prepared to whisk off the email that was Tony's sharp rejection dulled a bit by Pepper's tact.
She had heard the last bit of conversation and felt a small twist in her stomach. Tony wasn't even bothering to think or worry about Steve, whom Pepper knew to be almost as close a friend as Tony could have in his job-and-mission-oriented world. She made a mental note to look for him once she got back upstairs. She could help Tony with this, too - at least.
Tony's rejection of Katherine made her blink as well, though she gave no other outward appearance of being flustered. After a couple of seconds she cut back on her concerns. It was still too close to the war to even talk about fighting or joining fighting teams. Tony's voice had a dismissive ring to it, so she turned to Katherine. "Would you like something to eat or drink on your way out?"

"Hold that thought blondy I'm not done yet." Kate told Pepper before walking over to Tony "I like to know what the hell you did with X three weeks ago you two left that night for three days you where gone and you come back alone with slashes all over your body I know where made by her claws." She said glaring at him her voice raising with anger.
"I sent her on a mission and she died." Tony said as he worked on one of the gloves "That's bull and you know it we both know Laura can't die like everyone else it would take a hell of a lot to kill her." Kate replied still not happy with what Tony was telling her. Everyone who knew X-23 knew she could take a thousand bullets to the chest and walk away after she had healed of course.

"The city she was in was hit with a nuke there was nothing left of her or anyone else in the city." Tony said before looking over at Pepper "Miss. Potts would you please show Miss. Bishop out and tell Gerald Clovis I don't have time for him right I have plans for tonight with someone else." He said going back to work on the glove trying to get it just the way he wanted it as he waited for the paint to get here he had decided to repaint this suit with a darker color getting tired of the same colors he used for almost all the suits he had.

Pepper blinked as Katherine very firmly snapped at her. She showed no outward reaction and inside merely checked herself. Working with Tony Stark, she had come to build quite a nice defense against being snapped at and so Katherine's retort slid off her back like water. Instead, she sent off the email to Clovis and stepped back to gesture to the door. She didn't repeat her question to Katherine - it was safe to assume the offer was still open if Katherine chose to want something to eat or drink.
She was already looking at Tony with a questioning eyebrow, however. She remembered that night clearly...she had found Tony on the roof again and hauled him downstairs, then spent the night cleaning his wounds. She hadn't asked him where he'd been or why he was so torn up. She'd anticipated he would tell her when he was ready. Except he never had.
She slipped a look at Jarvis as she waited and noticed the colors of Tony's suit looked different. Darker.
She could not explain why that bothered her on a fundamental level, but she only said: "Will that be all, Mr. Stark?"
"That will be all, Miss Potts."
Pepper waited for Katherine to exit.

"Your lying, Laura wouldn't have attacked you like that unless you tried to hurt her." Kate said she and the young mutant had became war buddies since they had been partnered up for many missions Kate doing the spy work and Laura watched her back. When she noticed Tony was ignoring her she grabbed the glove he was working on and that's when it happened Kate was hit in the stomach with the concussive force of the repulsor lifting her off the ground and sending her a cross the room and crashed into the wall before her body fell to the ground lifelessly.

Tony stood where he was just staring at Kate's smoking body on the other side of the room for a good five minuets before turning to Pepper "Get someone up here to deal with this I have other more importon things to do." He said as he took off the glove and walked out of the room heading to his up to the penthouse level leaving behind Kate's body wither she was alive or dead and most likely confused Pepper behind.

Katherine didn't seem to want to deal with leaving, and she fiercely began to argue with Tony. Pepper was able to register the threat that Tony had been the one to hurt the young Laura when the roar of a repulsor blast bent her double. She let out a cry and clapped her hands over her ears - almost too late; the noise rang deafeningly. She took a step backwards and opened her eyes, glaring around at the workshop.
She stood stock still, her face frozen in surprise, as Tony slowly lowered his hand. At first she thought it had been a malfunction - Tony would likely blow himself up just as much as make breakthroughs, it was one of the things she loved about him. But Pepper Potts was no fool. Tony had deliberately fired a repulsor blast at Katherine.
Tony barked out an order to her and stalked out of his workshop, leaving Pepper stunned and silent. "T-Tony?" she asked, completely forgoing the 'Mr. Stark' formality. "Tony!"
He was gone, up the stairs, and her voice rang tinnily back in her own ears. Who was she supposed to call? And what was she supposed to say to them? She was at Stark Towers, not Tony's own home. And was she supposed to lie and say it had been an accident?
That wasn't happening. Not at all. Pepper moved and grabbed Katherine's body, pulling it to the back of the workshop. She moved to the first aid kit and pulled it open, then looked at the wound. Repulsor blast. Repulsor blast. She could sanitize and dress the wound but end results were end results - this woman needed a hospital to figure out the extent of her internal injuries.
Pepper moaned out loud and hurriedly sanitized and dressed the wound. Then, she picked up her cell and dialed 9-1-1.
"This is Pepper Potts at Stark Towers. We had....an accident." Thank God no one was looking at her face. "There's a woman badly injured in Stark's lab. I don't want to move her."
"We're on our way ma'am. What happened?"
Pepper looked at the stairs, her throat catching.
"Ma'am?"
"Equipment malfunction."

Kate didn't move or say anything as Pepper sanitize and dress the wound a short time later the paramedics showed up and began working on her starting an IV and putting her on a respirator then put her on the stretcher strapped her down and moved her out of the room down the hall and into the elevator.
Once the door opened they took out to the ambulance and put her in the back once inside the first paramedic began cutting away the bandages while the other began to plug her into different things as they drove off.

Pepper didn't follow the ambulance to the hospital. Instead she set to cleaning the workshop as best as she could. She was used to the ordered chaos that surrounded Tony when he worked, and deciphering the recent shrapnel on the ground from the average everyday stuff was of little trouble to her. So in some places she deliberately left a mess, while others she fixed up. And she touched none of his tools. That would certainly mean she got in trouble and she wasn't about to anger Tony any more than he already was.
He'd attacked an unarmed woman. Or as unarmed as Pepper had seen her. That went far beyond just post-traumatic stress, even far beyond war recovery. Tony never, that Pepper knew of, never ever had attacked someone unarmed who had done him no harm. This new development frightened her to the point that she paused in her cleaning to look at her shaking hands.
She wondered when - or if - Tony was going to come back. At any rate, she would have to find him again, most likely.
But what would she find when she went looking?

After some time Tony returned to the lab to start working on his armor again there where some things he had to fix he had to make the weapons more powerful then they where. "What are you still doing here?" He asked when he saw that Pepper was still there cleaning up from the looks of things. "Why don't you take the rest of the day off in fact take the rest of the week off. I'll call you when I need you." He said wanting to get the woman out of hair as fast as he could so finished what he was doing and go meet up with his new boss.
