Pepper stiffened and a fierce, fiery look came into her eyes. She stopped what she was doing - she'd done enough - and looked Tony Stark square in the eye. "Why did you attack that woman?" she asked, hiding the accusation but not the confusion in her voice.

Tony was emotionally unstable now...dangerously so. She wasn't about to leave him. He would hate her for it, she was sure, but in the end he would thank you. He always did. Always found a use for her...

Pepper looked into Tony's eyes. Directly. She saw no compassion, no understanding, and no pity in those merciless eyes. Instead of fire, a cold steel bar of fear ran down her back. Her eyes picked out his phone - he was dialing security.
"What's happening to you, Tony?" she whispered.
She turned and left the workshop before he could complete the call, heading upstairs. She moved towards his office but took a seat at her desk instead. She could stay out of his way and simply become a shadow, only there if he deigned to look at her. She had done it before. She wouldn't go to the workshop unless he needed her, and she would stay at her desk and work until it was time to go home.
