Trenton had decided not to join in on the parade. It was honoring the heroes who had participated in the war. She did watch however, standing in the back of the teeming crowd of cheering men and women.
How fickle people could be. These heroes were hated the moment they came home, and now they were loved again? Because Star City was destroyed and people saw their heroes as heroes again? Because people only worship their heroes when they are scared. they would be back to antagonizing them in no time.
But she stood still in the back and watched the events play out. Her hair was pulled up in a high ponytail to prevent the back of her neck from getting too hot and humid in the California sun.
She peered as best she could over the crowd. So it kinda sucked to be short sometimes. It wasn't like she was all too enthused about watching the parade march by. This was for people like Superman anyway.
Not far away, a tiny group of protesters cut through the groups of families to scream their hatred out to the world.
Sophia leaned against the walls he was quickly being pressed into and let out an exhausted sigh.

"Bwah!" Gwen Stratford exclaimed, sending those watching the parading heroes in silence to glare. "Excuse me-- comin' through--" Gwen weaved her way through the large mass of people. She was so excited to see the heroes; she wanted to be just like them. Wide eyes peered over the tall bodies in front of her, in order to be able to see. Gwen rolled onto the balls of her feet and continued to shift her head right and left on her shoulders. Still couldn't see.
Suddenly, many shouts were heard on the left of her. Being the curious girl she was, Gwen turned her head, to meet face-to-face with a stern looking woman followed by a group of others. "Down with mutants-- down with the parade-- down with--" It sounded like a wave of people telling to put stuff down, evidently.
Gwen quirked a brow, confused. But when she stood in the way of the protesters, suddenly one of their arms met with Gwen's shoulder, sending her hurling to the ground. Immediately Gwen rose to her feet; however, she found herself growling in her throat.
"This is a hero parade, people! Go make your little anti-gay march somewhere else!" Gwen Stratford raised a fist to emphasize her point, until a large wooden object made impact to her face. She fell back in surprise. What is with these people??

"Cool it, Red", Trenton said coolly as she reached down and pulled the young woman to her feet. She had no problem with wearing her Untouchables patches on her jacket and or jeans. It gave her a tiny sense of identity and power.
She looked over to the woman who was knocked down. They looked to be about the same age. She looked back at the quickly growing group of protesters and a smirk spread across her face.
She rushed around the group several times at an incredible lightening speed. Their signs and banners were send whirling away.
Trenton stopped again next to the girl as if she had never left.
"These twerps show up everywhere", she spat.

A wave of pain blurred Gwen's vision. Even when the woman lifted her up off of the ground. After a few moments of blinking to grasp reality, the brunette disappeared-- Gasps and yelps of anger and frustration came from the group of protesters. Gwen turned her gaze as fast as she could and saw many of the group jumping up and bending over to collect their papers that had shot up everywhere. And in another blink of an eye, the woman who helped her appeared back where she had stood beforehand.
"Whoa." Gwen muttered in awe as she began to speak again.
"These twerps show up everywhere."
Gwen Stratford wanted to ask why, but the answer was rather obvious. There's always a group of people against the people who are different than the usual being. Asking such a question would be a waste of breath-- and a waste of the woman's time.
"Thanks for helping me!" Gwen said with a wide grin as a drop of blood slid from her nose down to her chin. A cool, yet itchy sensation formed at her chin, where she touched the blood. "Bwah! Those twerps gave me a bloody nose!" With her forearm, she wiped it off, sending a streak of red down her arm. "And I'm helping the situation..." She murmured sarcastically at her arm.

"Speedster", Sophia said with a wink as she looked down at the younger girl. It seemed she had been doing more chaos with her powers lately than good. But the war had made her a slightly different person.
"And you?", Trenton questioned as she watched the angry group start to grow. She glanced down the street to see the heroes parade begin.
"I mean, why would you get so upset about all this...", she said as she brushed some hair out of her face and looked down at the redhead. "You a super?"
She reached into her into her pockets and pulled out a tissue, and handed it to Gwen.

With an eyebrow raised, Gwen slowly nodded, as if in a confused daze. She didn't feel my shock. There was a pause in her thoughts. Does that mean... does that mean I'm getting better at controlling my electricity? Gwen pursed her lips and contemplated in silence for a few short moments. Or she absorbed it!
As Gwen took the tissue, she nodded in thanks to Sophia's gesture. Gwen ripped it in two and promptly shoved the pieces up both nostrils. After a giant sniffle, Gwen blinked light-headedly and replied, "Uh, Gwen Stratford!" Her voice was slightly muffled due to her stuffy nose. Most would admit she looked extremely ridiculous with the tissue up her nose and her blunt voice. When Sophia asked Gwen if she were a super, she eagerly responded: "Yeah, yeah I am!" Gwen spoke pridefully, as if she had been waiting for someone to ask her. Gwen seemed to overflow with excitement and energy. Someone would accept her here, right??
Gwen turned towards the group of protesters who attempted to make their leave down the parade, only being stopped by standing pedestrians. She pouted her lips in a slight, airy frustration.

Sophia sighed rather deeply as the scene continued to play out. There would always be a group of people that were against another group. Always. It was a constant in life. It was unavoidable.
She looked down at the girl before slipping a cigarette from her belt cases and slipping it between her lips. She was a nervous, fidgety thing. It made Sophia a bit nervous herself, really.
"Maybe you should join the new Teen Titans..", she said pointedly as she searched for a lighter. She peered over at the group of advancing protesters, and back to the group of floats ready to make their go down the street. Sophia had been invited to join the group, by Nightwing, but had decided not to go. She was going down a slightly darker path now, lonely as it was.
"You look like you could use a mentor", she snapped quickly referring to the girls nervous disposition. She smiled upon finding the lighter and sparked her cigarette up. "And I'm not sure where you could find a better mentor than Nightwing.."

There was a short moment of contemplation between the two of them as they watched the group march around, projecting their hatred and spreading their ignorant word. Gwen sighed and gazed back at Sophia who had pulled out a cigarette.
"Maybe you should join the new Teen Titans."
Maybe? Of course she should! Gwen had been wanting an opportunity like this for years, if not her whole life. She wanted to save others and be looked up to-- she wanted to imagine her youth with a superhero, someone to watch over her as her parents ceased to know she existed. But everyone has a sob-story, just like everyone has a reason to be a hero. Gwen sighed again. She wanted to tell Sophia of a long, long tale, justifying her intense reasoning to be so worked up. But honestly, who cares? You want to be a superhero, congratulations, here's a prize; No one wants to listen to anyone, anymore. There is so much going on, no one has time to listen. Gwen scratched her head casually as she squinted. Plus, she was just a gigantic burden. So much for self confidence. She told herself sarcastically as she rolled her eyes under her eyelids.
You look like you could use a mentor... and I'm not sure where you could find a better mentor than Nightwing."
Gwen smiled at Sophia. She noticed how awkward Gwen felt, yet spoke to her as if everything were okay, simpler. Gwen nodded knowingly, placing her hands on her hips and shrugging her shoulders. "Yeah, I know," She began, gazing at the parading heroes and the floats that bombarded the streets. "I just feel lame, not being able to impress the guy, you know?" Shockwave paused and allowed the cheering fill in the empty sound. "I don't like the feeling of being behind and dragging those who want to succeed down with me." Gwen stopped talking again, seeming to be lost in her endless amount of thoughts. "But, I guess everyone has to start somewhere. Not everyone was naturally born a skilled fighter when they popped out of the womb." She stated in her defense in reference to her horrible martial art skills. Gwen pursed her lips as she watched the slow smoke emit from the end of Sophia's cigarette.
