...In times of great social strife and tribulation, Evil is roused to action. Apathy and Fear leave it to contrive untouched in the shadows, taking shape and driving the wheels of Destiny toward ruin...
In the years of the "Mutant Menace," mankind has sacrificed morality and compassion to its fears, praying that their sins would grant them safety before a people who they cannot understand, and cannot trust...People whose only crime was being born "different"...
For mutants, theirs is a life of endless persecution and prejudice. The hatred of humanity bears down on them with every step they take, and so they must hide themselves from the world, in hopes that they too will be safe. The rest of the world cares little for their plight...
Governments plot secretly against the mutant populations; driven by intolerant doctrines they demonize those that are different. Fearing the power of the X gene, there are many who seek to destroy them, terrified of inadequacy. To keep their power, humanity will seek to purify the world...
And so, Evil grows...
For some mutants, there is the dream of peace and equality, a light of hope that guides them, and the one who bears it amidst the terrible darkness that threatens to consume all things. He is Professor Charles Xavier, and that light is the Xavier's School for the Gifted, a place where mutants gather without fear, learning to control their mutant powers, and learning to live with humanity.
Yet, in spite of that, there are others, and for them there is only the dream of survival. For all that mankind has done in the past, for all of humanity's flaws and sins, there are those who believe mutants to be the future. It is the belief that this world rightfully belongs to Homo superior that drives them, for these mutants have learned an important truth: humans are incapable of accepting even each other, thus, hoping for peaceful coexistence is a fool's hope. To them, humans are the enemy, and they would rather see mankind on its knees than be enslaved to its hatred.
Then there are more, mutants and humans, who would manipulate the turmoil around them and benefit from it. To these individuals, there is only self-preservation, and the Fates of strangers are left to their selfish designs...
And so, Evil grows...
As the world spirals toward a ruinous end, a single being watches and smiles as the weak are consumed in the flames of strife. His name is Apocalypse, and he is the oldest of all things. So powerful and ancient a being is he that the Earth was young when he first walked its surface, and he will watch as it takes its last breath...
Beware, for Evil approaches...
