Super Powers: Kate possesses a photographic memory. Apparently she also has 'photographic reflexes' similar to Taskmaster.
Learned Abilities: Kate is very athletic, has been trained in self-defense, and has excellent archery skills
Equipment: Kate wields a bow and arrow, staves, and a sword. They are modeled after a variety of weapons she obtained from Avengers Mansion: Hawkeye's bow and quiver, Mockingbird's battle staves, the Black Widow's utility belt and Swordsman's sword. She also put on Mockingbird's mask.
Weaknesses (Must Have): She's human and can be killed like one
Background: A "normal" civilian forcibly introduced to the Young Avengers in an early rescue attempt made by the team, Kate demonstrated skill and levelheadedness in high pressure situations. Independent, tough-minded, and blunt, she was also an excellent archer. Her encounter with the young team led her to investigate them on her own, following them to Avengers headquarters. She invited herself to join to the team, donning the gear of Mockingbird and Hawkeye, as well as what may have been Swordsman's sword and Black Widow's belt. When Kate first appeared wearing Mockingbird's mask, Patriot jokingly refered to her as "Hawkingbird." She helped the Young Avengers escape after Captain America and Iron Man had locked them up. She helped them in their battle against Kang the Conqueror and has remained with the ever since.
After the team's first adventure stopping Kang the Conqueror, Captain America and Iron Man ordered the team to break-up and refused to train the team without their parents' consent. But Kate Bishop still wanted to be a Young Avenger. Thinking the worst Captain America and Iron Man could do was tell their parents, Kate took the team to an abandoned warehouse previously owned by one of her father's companies, Bishop Publishing, which became the team's lair. She also had new uniforms made for them.
She and team member Patriot may share a chemistry, but that chemistry came under strain when it was revealed how he got his powers. When first meeting Thomas Shepherd she was struck speechless. It seemed like she had some interest in the new Young Avenger. Still, she was the driving member of the team, pushing everyone to stay together and borderline leading when Patriot was not around, even giving him the occasional order.
Sometime prior to joining the team she was brutally attacked in (what appears to be) Central Park. The exact nature of the attack is unclear. At first, the incident left her traumatized, but then it spurred her to engage in intense combat training. So far the team is unaware of this incident as Kate only told her therapist and Jessica Jones.
After Patriot was injured, Captain America informed the Young Avengers that he hoped that they start normal lives. Kate told him if he had trained them, Patriot might not have been injured and it was best for him to help the Young Avengers by accepting them. Jessica Jones returned to give Kate the original Hawkeye's bow and arrows with a note from Captain America addressed to Hawkeye. Jessica told Kate that the only other person to stand up to Captain America the way Kate did was Hawkeye, and that Captain America wanted her to take Clint's codename. Kate did and became the second Hawkeye.
Kate has been identified as one of the 142 registered superheroes who appear on the cover of the comic book Avengers: The Initiative #1. [2] However, she and Patriot (who is also on that same cover) make a brief appearance in Doctor Strange's home, the hideout of the New Avengers in the second issue of Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America, casting some doubt into their allegiances. However, in the same issue of Fallen Son, Iron Fist remarks that "It's been a tough week" leading to the assumption that series takes place in the week following Cap's death, and the Young Avengers may have registered after that. It also might have been the "Alpha" form of herself that registered and not herself.
In the same series, Kate and Patriot confront Clint Barton, who had temporarily taken on the costume and shield of Captain America. Unaware of who he truly is, Kate berates Clint, saying that she took Hawkeye's name to honor him but didn't copy his costume as that would be shameful; she further states that "if Hawkeye were alive, I'd call myself something else." Her words convince Clint to return the shield and costume to Tony Stark, condemn Stark for his role in the Civil War, and go his own path
In the first issue of the Young Avengers Presents limited series, Kate assists Patriot in tracking down Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, aiding him in taking down a cell of A.I.M. cyborgs in the process. Kate will also be the protagonist of the sixth and final issue of the series, reported to involve a team-up between her and the original Hawkeye, Clint Barton.
Personality : Kate is essentially the daughter of a rich, high society family, though she tends to be more of the trouble-making, give a damn type. This isn’t to say she doesn’t enjoy high society, she does, but she also wants more from life. A lot more.
And being part of the Young Avengers gives her that, feeding the rebellious streak within her. Kate speaks her mind when she needs to, and she doesn’t take kindly to drama or bullshit. If she dislikes you, she will tell you to your face. She isn’t above using her family’s resources to help the Young Avengers out.
Other:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Brief Sample Roleplay Kate Bishop usually wasn’t the type to come to Central Park late at night, especially all by herself. She’d been attacked here once, a few months ago, just a few weeks before meeting and teaming up with the Young Avengers, actually. (Okay, so teaming up was a bit of a harsh word. She’d more forced herself on them. Whatever.) Kate had fought her attackers back as best she could, but she’d felt like a weakling then, a helpless sparkling socialite of a damsel in distress. It was a feeling that left a nasty taste in her mouth, like the taste of cheap ninety-nine cent store chocolate or goat cheese.
She’d started training then, promising herself she’d never feel that way again. She joined a slew of martial arts classes, took fencing lessons, and learned how to use a bow and arrow. She learned how to fight with staves and with tonfa, and she learned all she could about pressure points. Physically and mentally, Kate was more fit than she had ever been.
It gave the young woman a new sense of confidence as she walked in Central Park late Sunday night, dressed casually in jeans, a trendy sweater, and a belted trench coat, a small bow and a handful of arrows artfully hidden inside her ensemble. A dagger was strapped to her ankle, inside of her boots. There was a sort of swaggering jaunt to her step, one that only increased when she saw a man trying to mug a woman.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Kate said, coming close to him. She automatically shifted into a position that was neither offensive nor defensive, but which could easily slide into either one of those.
“Whatchoo gonna do ‘bout it?” the would-be mugger asked, sneering at Kate.
Kate rolled her eyes. Seriously, did these guys get there lines from an early nineties video game?
She launched herself into the air, her leg shooting up and out, catching the guy at his throat. She grabbed on to a tree branch above her for leverage and swung, her foot colliding with his face making a vicious thwap! Kate watched the crook go down, his shape shifting into something else – an alien. Immediately, Kate pulled out her bow and arrow, aiming it for the alien’s nose. “Tell me, if I shoot an alien, does that make me a bad guy?”
The alien whimpered, unsure of how to answer her. Kate wouldn’t really kill him like that, but striking fear into the bad guys’ hearts? That was fun.
“Run away now and don’t come back, and maybe we don’t need to find out,” Kate said, stepping away from the little violent alien. The alien nodded and stood up, it’s cloth-like skin soft on the grass as it turned from her and ran away, yelping as it did so.
Kate grinned to herself. Yeah, being able to fight and defend people definitely had its perks. Especially when she knew she could do it on her own, without her team backing her up. Not that she didn’t mind the back-up, but once in awhile, a girl just wanted to make sure that she could still do things on her own.
