Super Powers:
Energy Absorption:
Dr. Erskine is capable of absorbing almost limitless amounts of energy from any source he is in direct contact with. The energy can be drawn from almost any source, be it chemical, electrical, sub-atomic etc.
This allows him to absorb and store energy within his body for use, making him much like a giant capacitor. This ability can be used as an offensive weapon, allowing him to drain energy from a target or foe.
Energy Manipulation:
Dr. Erskine is capable of transforming energy within his body to be stored as pure energy, allowing for maximum storage. This energy can then be emitted and redirected, be it to power electrical equipment, light a fire, enhance his blows or even as bolts of energy designed to destroy his enemies.
This ability also grants the use of electromagnetic and kinetic energy fields, which if used correctly, can provide a shield or even provide flight capability, or even be used as offensive weapons themselves.
Learned Abilities:
As a normal man, DR. Erskine’s achievements in the field of nuclear physics were great and numerous. He is an accomplished scientist and an intellectual, and has a fundamental knowledge of most things, even if he is not an expert.
Equipment:
Sigma suit: Damaged by Dr. Strange - not yet repaired
The Sigma Suit allows Dr. Erskine to store greater amounts energy within specially designed bio-capacitors.
It also provides protection to the user, should his powers fail, and contains breathing apparatus. It is built from a flexible nano-mesh fibre, allowing it to become rigid and spread impacts across the surface, lessening any blows.
The suit is also designed to help Dr. Erskine focus his powers, allowing for greater energy field projection. It is however, not a major contributor to his abilities - more so a failsafe device.
Weaknesses (Must Have):
Limited energy storage:
Dr. Erskine can only store a limited amount of energy within his body and his suit. Whilst this energy could equate to the power output of several main sequence stars (like the sun), he has his limits and has never fully tested them. Should he attempt to absorb more energy than safely possible, he may simply explode – much like an exploding sun. There are other possibilities for the outcome of the event, such as simple death, the formation of an energy vortex/black hole or ascension to a being of pure energy.
Dr. Erskine believes the most likely outcome is a catastrophic explosion, and has no intentions of testing his theory.
Sigma suit:
Without his suit Sigma’s offensive capabilities are somewhat more limited. Whilst his defensive abilities do not suffer, the range and power of his energy field projections drops significantly.
Only human:
Should he run out of energy, he would be powerless. Due to the fact that he can absorb energy directly from the air around him, any material he is in contact with, and the Earth’s magnetic field, this is an unlikely situation.
However, this would render him no stronger or more powerful than the average man.
Non energy-based attacks:
Attacks based on telepathy (direct assaults on the mind) and magic (not a form of energy Sigma can manipulate) are capable of injuring and disabling Sigma, as the circumvent his ability to defend himself by supplying no real energy whatsoever.
Mental instability:
Dr. Erskine / Ayin shares his body with his own mirror version - the dark and twisted mind of Sigma. Whilst Ayin can use and access his powers without Sigma, the more he uses them, the stronger his dark side becomes.
Should he ever be pushed too far, Sigma will assume control of their body. Not only does this make him an entirely different man, but Sigma - spawned from the energy flowing through their shared brain - is capable of harnessing far more power than Ayin.
This risk of mental break makes him unstable, and unreliable in the eyes of others, and a danger to the entire planet.
Background:
Dr. Jared Erskine graduated from Oxford University in the United Kingdom with a First Masters degree in nuclear physics. He went on to head several important research projects, and published several of his own theoretical papers on the structure of and manipulation of energy.
His theories were mocked and scorned by the wider scientific community, and Dr. Erskine’s reputation was tarnished. He was removed from several prestigious positions on scientific and academic boards, and due to an overly obsessive nature, fired from his own project team.
Not to be mocked or discouraged, he broke into his own lab late one night, and conducted the penultimate experiment that would prove his theory correct.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper personnel and safety procedures, and a little insanity on his part, the equipment malfunctioned severely, causing it to explode.
The laboratory was completely and utterly destroyed, but from the smoking ruins a new and revitalized Dr. Erskine emerged. Wearing nothing more than the tattered rags of his singed clothing, and blackened from head to toe he walked into the hospital, feeling unusually well.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. agents discovered that a man had survived a catastrophic explosion and seemed to be in better health that ever, they dispatched two operatives to retrieve Dr. Erskine for examination.
When they arrived in the hospital and attempted to sedate Dr. Erskine, he resisted, and accidentally drained one of the operatives, before blasting the other through a window.
In the chaos and confusion, Dr. Erskine escaped. Having discovered his new powers, he fled the country and moved to Russia, where he developed not only his own powers, but designed and built his Sigma suit.
Now he has returned to the US as Sigma, to seek revenge on those who ruined him.
- - Update - -
After a number of confrontations with the powerful sorcerer Dr. Strange, and a number of ongoing help sessions, Dr. Jared Erskine is now two people in one body.
The morally integral Dr. Erskine shares his mind with the twisted and power mad lunatic Sigma. They are effectively two entirely different people, rather than sides of a personality. Either one or the other is in control at any one time.
During costumed hero work, Dr. Erskine goes by the name Ayin - The origin/eye, and has recently developed his own costume.
Personality :
As unstable and unpredictable as the energy that runs through him, Sigma would probably benefit from counselling. Years of seclusion and his own past have given him a distaste for other human beings, and he can easily snap, becoming aggressive or even violent only moments after offering a hand in friendship.
Other: None

Brief Sample Roleplay
Dr. Stevens opened his eyes and looked around the room. He was still in the laboratory – or at least what was left of it.
Looking up he could see the stars through a huge hole in the roof. Rubble and broken machinery littered the floor and debris was strewn everywhere. The place was filled with thin, white smoke from burning electrics somewhere, and a huge glass cabinet had been overturned, spilling its contents across the floor.
It truly was a sight of destruction, and in the midst of it all hovered a strange figure, clad in black and green - A shadow from the past.
“Did you honestly think I’d forgotten about you, Stevens?” It demanded to know.
“I. . . But. . .” The doctor blabbered, wincing as pain wracked his crushed right leg.
“Pathetic. Goodbye Richard.” The masked figure raised his hand towards the doctor. There was a sudden flash of green and blinding, white pain. . .
Then nothing.
