He was insane. He was insane with rage, and Stephanie was currently caught in the crosshairs of his malevolent motives. Under her vigilanted guise of the Spoiler she had chased down the low down thug. He had a long history of murder and thievery, and Stephanie was determined to toss him in the slammer once again.
The chase and the fight ended up on one of the high roofs that cluttered Gotham City. It had been a bloody brawl, and the large and strong mad man had more than put her in her place that night. Still, the woman had always had a high tolerance for pain and had more than enough heart to continue.
A well placed kick and a roundhouse and the man was down. He rolled back and in her haste and vigor she practically fought him right off of the roof. She caught him however, gripping his hands and pulling him back. But he was insane. He was insane with rage. He clawed and spat, bit and attempted to flip the vigilante off of the roof herself. The man continued to fight and claw until Stephanie could no longer hand him. He sunk his teeth into her hands repeatedly and finally winced in pain. The man slipped from her grip.
"No!", she screamed as he began to fall. She dived after, using her hook line. It was impossible though. She could not catch him. The man hit thr ground below and in that instant Stephanies eyes welled with tears. It happened to most heroes and vigilantes during their careers. A person they couldn't save or an enemy that they fought too hard. Now the man lay dead below and the costumed woman could hardly feel as the shock waved over her. She called the police and watched below as the man was taken away, a sheet over his body. She buried her face in her hands and wept openly as she sat on the ledge of the building.
