Kyle could hear the argumentative voices from the end of the hallway. He looked around with an arched eyebrow, noticing how well the sound traveled through the structure. He sighed and shook his head. Why did ever meeting always turn into a fight? Then again what else could he expect when the worlds bravest, brightest and boldest gathered. It had been a hard decision to make, and as the argument continued before the young man was even near the door, he wondered if he had made the right choice.
"Heard some pretty angry voices"
Kyle had popped his head into the room and offered a cheesy little grin before stepping in.
"Figured the bat must have already arrived"
Kyle smiled a little at his tiny joke, hoping he had done something to lessen the amount of tension in the conference room. He took a seat quickly and scanned the room. He found himself slightly dissapointed to find no other Green Lanterns. He was hoping Hal, John or Guy would at least stop by, and maybe they still would. In the mean time Kyle scanned who had arrived and made a roster in his mind.

"Ehhhh! It's Kyle! We got a Green Lantern! We're legit now!" Grant said trying to exhibit a more pleasant mood than the one created by Hourman and Batman. He could literally see them attempting to kill one another with deathly stares. Grant shivered for a moment. He was usually the serious brooding one, something was seriously wrong here. "Come on guys! Don't be like that. Let's just give the table to Ted so he can make his own remarks. In case you forgot, he's the one who brought us here, I'm sure he's got something in mind for us."
Grant gestured towards Beetle with his hand, as if to give him the floor. Like Grant had ever had the floor, like Batman or Rick had ever had the floor to begin with. Grant would never admit to it, but back when the Justice League International was still running around, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle or "Blue & Gold" were his favorite heroes of the day. Neither had any inherent powers, but they still risked their lives for good; and neither took the job too seriously, like Batman or most of the legacy JSA members. They were just trying to save the day, maybe make a few bucks along the way. Grant would only admit this when talking just with Beetle, but it was really a great honor to be working with the man, more so than Batman or the charter JSA members, with the exception of Wildcat, that guy was crazy.

The call had been simple, the trip swift, and as Superman walked into the room and glanced over the gathered he kept his face as impassive as possible. The original members of the League were nearly not to be found, but some of them were here. And some of them looked absolutely serious. He could tell Batman wasn't impressed at all, and he walked up to the Dark Knight with a serious face.
"Nothing is ever the way it is expected," he said by way of trying to calm down the angry bat. "Changes of war."
He looked around again at the gathered members and nodded. "It's good to see the number of us that received warnings and are hiding from the war crimes accusations below." Hide. He hated that word. The government had begged their help, pleaded, given them all the power they could, and now even though they had won they were being put back in their places as though they needed to be shackled and chained. We saved lives and lost many of our own. And we are still paying the price. It was shocking, maddening, and just sad.

Ted sighed and flipped his mask back and off as Batman continued. He would never understand why Bruces angst always had to take center stage, but he listened as any leader should. Then Rick took the floor, and again, Beetle said nothing.
"Yes Batman, the war is technically over. But come on. We all know it's not going to really end for years.", Ted pursed his lips and little and leaned forward, ready to adress the fact that Batman had threatened to toss him off the team. "Please Batman, I'm not some back alley thug who needs their legs broken. Don't threaten me...because really I couldn't care less what you think of my maturity levels. So I did my service with a smile? So what? I'd like to point out that I, along with Mr. Terric, were the leading intelligence officers in the war. To be short. Get over yourself. It's not about you"
He turned and offered a nod and a smile to Damage, who had opened the floor for Ted to speak. He took a seat then, and watched as two more entered the room. He smiled widely to see Kyle Rayner and Superman. "Finallysomeone that ol' Bats might approve of", he said with a chuckle as he stood from his seat and briskly shook both their hands. "Nice to see you two again", he said and offered them their seats.
"I think we'll all agree that Superman here should be one of our field leaders, and maybe Kyle?", he took his own seat again. "And who should be up in the tower with myself? Doc? Miracle?"

"And don't forget me!" One of the large screens in the wall sparked into life and Oracle appered behind it, her sign up in the top right hand corner of the screen. She was getting back on her feet - not literally unfortionatly - after the war, and reinstating most of her old contacts. The Birds of Prey had been restarted, and Oracle had decided that she ought to play her part when the JLA started up again.
Smiling to everybody in the room - and winking at Ted - even over computer screens she could feel the tension in the room. Batman stood over the table at his usual place angrily, Superman trying to calm him down. The Hourman seemed pretty angery at him and Ted looked darn upset.
Smiling at Bruce, Oracle gave him her silent support. Dark he may be, and morbid certainly, but he wa a good person; and if he created stress in the meeting it was because he was worried it wouldn't be strong enough to make it. That didn't make him any less hard to deal with at times, it just made Babs more willing to try.
"I figured you might need some ground communication - keep you informed while you're in your sub-space club house." There was no animosity in her words, however. Brushing a stray lock of flaming hair out of her face she looking over the group. She knew most of the people there, and who she didn't know, she certainly knew of. It was her business.

Post by Wally West on Jul 21, 2008 15:49:44 GMT -5
Wally bounced into the Teleporter in the basement of Central City’s S.T.A.R. Labs grinning exactly 0.000043 seconds after dropping the twins off with Max, one of the few babysitters who would keep up with the super powered pre-teens. He was looking forward to getting involved with the League once more, forgetting the horror that had been the war and hanging out with the sorts of people who made him feel good to be a hero. Supes, the Lanterns, Diana, hell even the Bat if he was honest. Bruce might take life a little seriously but his heart was certainly in the right place... once you found it.
So there was no surprise with these thoughts in his head that the Fastest Man Alive had a grin across his face when he typed in the coordinates for the Watchtower. The grin soon died as he saw the situation inside the main meeting room, former society members on one side of the room former leaguers on the other side. Still as he entered everyone seemed frozen in space but that hardly mattered their body language was clear. The Bat and the Blue Beetle facing off like the air was about to be full of Batarangs and BB’s any moment... why do we always fight when we get together? Tradition he supposed.
Still once the usual battle of wills was out of the way Wally thought they might just have one heck of a team here. Damage and Superboy together at one end of the room, super-Frat boys more like but they certainly had the power to be here, as for the rest well there were more brain cells in this room than probably anywhere else on earth. Then he saw Kyle and breathed a supersonic sigh of relief at the calm on the Lanterns face. The streak of crimson arrived at the ring-slingers side and leant in and whispered;
“What’s going on? Also... I’m the fastest guy here how am I also one of the last? How’ve you been Kyle? Corp’s treating you alright?” Wally delivered his usual burble, he always got a little nervous at the start of a new team.

Batman stood over the table with his arms crossed over his chest as criticisms began to fly at him. Hourman was clearly pissed off at what Batman had said and Blue Beetle soon joined Rick in arguing their points. Kyle Rayner, a respectable Green Lantern, Superman, Oracle, and Wally West, the immature but respected Flash joined the group. Batman looked over as each joined the group. Kyle mixed into the group of heroes but Superman did not. He approached Bruce and flat out said how he felt. Batman's face crinkled in disapproval and, frankly, shock. Superman never approached Bruce in that matter.
"Clark, we need to talk when this is through."
When Oracle wheeled in, she gave him her nod of approval. At least someone was on his side, believing the right thing. Wally zoomed in and tried to ignore the situation at hand, standing near Kyle. That didn't surprise Bruce in the least; Wally tended to stay out of arguments. Batman turned back to Hourman and the rest of the heroes that disagreed with him and slowly inhaled through his nose. Some of the points they fired at him were true. The War would have repercussions that lasted for years later but the job of the Justice League is to help others feel safe again, like the War is actually over. Batman exhaled through his nose and began.
"You all bring up good points and I stand corrected to a few of you. The War isn't over and won't be for another year or two but the physical War is done. Our job is to let the people know that they are safe again. I don't care how much we have to suffer, the citizens come first and you all should have known that before you put on the costume. Mentally, this War was hard on all of us. Truth is, the people need to feel like the War is over. Rick, Wildcat is a respectable ally and yes, he did train me in my early days. I have nothing against him, or the JSA for that matter. I was only trying to say that the Justice Society is a very different team than the Justice League and by combining forces, conflict could arise."
Batman paused and turned to Blue Beetle, a man he needed to apologize to. He would never do that in front of the League but Bruce would make sure Ted Kord knew about how he felt before the day was done. Batman looked Ted Kord in the eye and kept a steady gaze. Batman was trying to grasp how he really felt about Batman's words but all he could find was anger and disappointment. It was wrong of Bruce to thing poorly towards the new League but he couldn't help but see the JSA when he looked at the JLA's new line-up. Bruce exhaled quickly through his nose and looked over at Oracle before beginning to speak to Blue Beetle.
"You took my words the wrong way, Ted. I'm not saying you are not to be respected, because you are. You proved me, and a lot of other heroes, wrong by stepping away from Booster Gold and proving your maturity. The Untouchables was a big step for you and, frankly, I'm proud of what you've become. Now, on to League business. It's time we ended this unneeded argument and began discussing why we came here. Superman is an obvious choice for Field Leader. Kyle is a good choice for another Field Leader, as well. As for helping you in the Tower, Oracle would be an asset and Scott is good with the technicals. I'll see if I can get in touch with J'onn about helping you, as well.

As the members began to rally and circle, Batman seemed to renege on his negative attitude though the look in his eyes didn't escape Superman. Somehow Bruce had been offended by his words and Superman thought carefully about what he had said. It was true the JSA and JLA were two separate teams for two different reasons, but he had to agree with something he'd caught Ted Kord saying - that it didn't matter. What mattered now was that they would be protecting the American people from any new villains. And if they needed fresh blood to do it - why not let the kids join?
They were electing him a field leader, and he only nodded once to show his acquiescence to this nomination. His thoughts were still elsewhere, deeply troubled. He had come up worried about the war, but something was niggling at the back of his mind and he just wasn't sure what it was or how to deal with it. The fact that he couldn't put his finger on it only made him worry more, and so he only had half an ear on the meeting.
Batman's apology caught his attention and his shifted his focus to Ted Kord to see how the leader would take it - especially when Bruce called an end to an argument he himself had started. That had to be bothering Bruce, having few recognize him as the leader of the JLA. Truth be told, however, even Superman would have preferred the man take a step back just for a moment. Of all the superheroes in the room, Bruce Wayne seemed the most heavily affected, which was troubling in and of itself.

((Bats, I'm not actually in the room. I'm down in gothem and am only on one of the screens in the meeting room. Visual contacts only.))
Barbara gaped when Bruce apologized - openly apologized - to Ted. that was something the Batman never did, and Babs had known him for a long long time. Quickly recovering herself, though, she smiled warmly at Bruce. Heaven only knows how the war had effected him, maybe he had changed more than anybody thought.
Adding her say, Oracle said "Since this is a very new group, until we get to know each other's assets and weaknesses I would suggest that you hold off on the major issues - at least until you've worked out the kinks. And my awsome incredible ability to read people is telling me that there are going to be lots of kinks to deal with. I can provide you with minor issues until you have yourselves organized. And, right up until the big moment of truth, let's keep the new JLA on the down low, agreed?"
The last thing Oracle wanted on her hands were outraged fan-boys out protesting the JLA and the JSA mixing - possable with more vehamence than Bruce had.

Stargirl waited as patiently as she could manage, biting her bottom lip in excitement after hero after hero waltzed in. This really was a great group so far. Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Batman! And of course her Justice Society counterparts.
"It's great to meet all of you!", she said cheerfully. "I'm Stargirl, call me Courtney or Court...or Star...or..", she went on for a few minutes and then abruptly stopped and shrugged.
She smiled back at Oracle, whom she had always admired. She was glad to not be the only woman on the new Justice League. "I wonder if Wonder Woman will come...", she said offhandedly as she glanced around the room.

Conner nodded as Kal walked in. He stopped himself before he became upset that he would have to take orders from the big blue again. He refused to be that childish anymore. He wasn't going to complain. He would act his age, and follow orders, save as many people as he could, and hope for the best. That was it. He was sure to make a name for himself if he just did the best he could. Not that people had forgotten what he had done to his team before.
Conner nodded to the image of Oracle in agreement. He could somewhat grasp what Batman was saying, about the differences in the way the teams had been run affecting performance and relations in the group. But he could also definitely see where Hourman was coming from, they shouldn't care. In the end, everybody just had to get over themselves and do what needed to be done. Conner could tell there would be a few fights before everyone got settled.
