Ted Kord was obviously out of his element. He had opened the Watchtower up once more, this time to begin the latest incarnation of the famous team. He sat in isolation and waited in the room that the League members normally held their discussions. He wore his classic two-toned blue costume and awaited the arrival of any who would show, though he was nervous as to what sort of turn out he may recieve. He could only hope that former Justice Leaguers would return when they recieved his messages or heard the news. Kord had hoped to remain something of a brains behind the League sort of member, as he was painfully obviously not cut to lead the team when it came to the field.
He had served well as an Intelligence officer in the Untouchables, and hoped to put his experience to further use. He grinned a little as he waited. The thought had often crossed his mind that all would be quite surprised to hear his name when it came to the reformation of the League. His heart was always in it though, he was always a sincere person even if his past did include a bit of goofing off with Booster Gold. Besides, he had since broken ties with his former best friends. He looked up quickly as a pair of footsteps padded down the hall.

Doctor Mid-Nite looked around himself. This was it, the Watchtower, no going back now. He was about to become a member of the new Justice League. He wondered what the regulations were about prior super-team loyalties. He didn't know, and he would prefer it if there were none. This was the dreaded first step. He was a little nervous. He had been asked to join the JSA, but now he was actually the one asking. This would be good though, a step in the right direction. He walked into the meeting room, in his usual uniform, He had left Charlie outside to fly around for a bit.
"First one here, eh?" Mid-Nite shrugged, it was always good to be punctual, right? "Doctor Mid-Nite. It's a pleasure, Blue Beetle." Mid-Nite said, stepping forward to shake Blue Beetle's hand, afterwards he took a seat facing the door so he could see who else showed up the moment they arrived.

Rick made his way through the Watchtower carefully. He shouldn't be suspicious of anything, but you couldn't be too careful these days. Some people said he had gone a little bit off the deep end. They said he was suffering from the traumatic experiences of war. No sir, he thought to himself, I watched Black Adam tear the limbs off of soldiers from two feet away before the war, I'm fine. Or at least, that's what he told himself.
He entered the room, seeing Doctor Mid-Nite there was a welcome surprise, he seldom saw many people from his days before the war, back in the JSA. Blue Beetle sat patiently awaiting the new arrivals. Rick pulled back his hood, letting it fall. His face was unshaven, and his hair was unkempt, like he had been in a car with the windows down. His appeared a little tired, he hadn't gotten much sleep lately. I have to keep fighting, he told himself, never stop fighting the criminals, like Dad never stopped. He approached Blue Beetle and shook his head.
"Hourman, Rick Tyler, I don't mind people in circles like this knowing, back in the Justice Society, we were like a family, we could always go to each other, I hope we can do that here." He turned and took a seat next to Pieter, who sat rather on edge. "Hey Mid-Nite, glad to see you're still around. It's good to see old friends." He continued to chat quietly with Mid-Nite while awaiting more people.

Courtney wasn't exactly sure how to make her entrance, and had done a pretty good job of stalling for the time being. She was an adult now, no longer the JSA's sixteen year old kid. She had grown up quite a bit, and had decided to take the rather bold step of becoming a part of the new Justice League. She ran her fingers nervously through her long blond hair, and twirled the locks a few times before sighing deeply and looking back towards the brightly lit conference room. She could already here voices in the room, and finally decided to walk in. she had been in a bit of..nefarious activity lately, but with any luck nobody would have heard of it yet.
Courtney took a deep breath and walked into the room, smiling, waving, and clutching her staff. She kept it extracted for show. She approached Beetle and smiled, she didn't know him very well at all, but that was okay. "Courtney Whitmore, Stargirl, and it's just awesome to meet you!", she said in a voice that was perhaps a bit too peppy. She was a bit nervous really, mostly because Pat was not here. She was not yet used to being without him.
Courtney smiled and took a seat, finally taking the time to notice the others in the room. "It's looking more like a Justice Society so far", she joked as she looked at Pieter and Rick. She would have honestly preferred the Society, but she was in no position to complain. She hoped nobody would ask about Pat, but someone would. She focused her attention on the man whom she had taken a seat next to, Hourman and frowned a little as she examined his appearance. "Are you okay, Rick?"

Conner was in his usual. The black t-shirt with the "family crest" emblazoned on the front, jeans and average, everyday shoes. It wasn't as eye-popping as Superman's and it wasn't as spandex-y as the first costume he wore. I think I'm okay with that, he thought to himself, smiling. He looked around the Watchtower. He hadn't been very active lately, he had nearly killed the Teen Titans because of some mind-control trigger Luthor, Conner's other genetic benefactor, had programmed into him. He had disappeared for a while, not willing to forgive himself but he was finally ready to take the chance and try his hand at saving people again. He would worry less about being in Superman's shadow, and more about why Superman cast such a large shadow to begin with. He was ready, and he couldn't sit on the sidelines anymore. The greatest crime I can commit is inaction, he told himself.
He entered the room. He recognized faces, Blue Beetle had been in the Justice League International years ago. The rest he recognized from the Justice Society. He couldn't help but notice the blonde. Conner was a sucker for a good looking blonde. He nonchalantly gave a casual salute, somewhat humorously, to the people already gathered.
"Superboy, outside of the day job, call me Conner." He smiled, and took a somewhat neutral seat, not knowing anyone in the room. He patiently took turns between glancing at the door and staring holes in the ceiling out of boredom, figuratively, because he could have actually stared holes into the ceiling.

Rick was staring off into the distance, having stopped talking to Mid-Nite for a bit. He had vaguely heard Stargirl's question. This is it, he thought, this is going to change things, I can tell, this new League will help so many people. He saw Superboy, or "Conner" introduce himself. Rick knew they couldn't fail now. They had at least one of Superman's group on the team, a heavy hitter, and not just for one hour. Not to belittle Stargirl, she had real power at her fingertips, but sometimes life needs a real simple right hook in the face. What Courtney had said to him finally registered. He shook his head, the blank expression on his face was replaced with a grin.
"Yeah, Court. I'm doing fine. Like I said," He gestured to the three of them sitting next to each other. "The band's getting back together. It'll be great, we'll be a team again, no more solo stuff, we'll have friends at our backs all the time now." He smiled wider. Courtney was a good kid, she would go far in this world if she realized her full potential and really went at it with a passion. That was where Rick's thinking took him at least.

Stargirl was visibly excited when Superboy entered the room. It was always good to have at least one member of the Super-family on any team. She grinned at him when he introduce himself, as if he really had to. In a very Courtney-like fashion she reached across the very large table as best as she could and extended her hand to him to shake.
"Stargirl, call me Courtney..or Court..", she said and flashed a smile before sinking back into her seat.
She looked back at Hourman with a bit of an arched brow. She couldn't help but wonder what was up with him. She hadn't been able to keep very close tabs on anybody, and for that she felt quite guilty. She forced a faux smile and placed a hand on his shoulder to show that she was there for him. She would talk to him more after this little meeting anyway.
"Expecting anyone in particular, Blue Beetle?"

It was a strange feeling, not needing to wear the mask anymore. He did, as an homage to those who came before him, like his father and Atom-Smasher, but now that his face had been repaired, he felt free from it. He felt like he didn't have to rely on it everywhere he went. He was not wearing the mask presently. He was scanning the halls, trying to memorize the layout as best he could. It was a little nerve-racking, he had worked with Young Justice, Teen Titans, the Freedom Fighters, even joining the JSA for barely a second before the war broke out. He had been asked to join the JSA because of his father, because he was a legacy. Now he was attempting to get into the only team on the playing field. But he was ready. He wanted to get back to business, and the League would help him keep his abilities in check. He entered the meeting room, it was already beginning to fill with people. Grant crossed his arms.
"Grant Emerson, Damage." He said briefly. He noticed there were several other JSAers hanging together. That was fine, but when all was said and done, he had known Conner longer and better than the others, except maybe Hourman, who had been the one to recruit Damage. So he took his seat next to Superboy. He initiated a little fist bump, it was a simple gesture, but in it was a hidden meaning: "Wow dude, we're joining the Justice League, we're really in the big times now, man." and Conner, by accepting said fist bump, was really saying, "Yeah, this is going to be awesome, we're not kids anymore, we're going places now." The shared a brief nod. The two heroes had a very similar posture, even when sitting. Half excitement, half boredom. The odd combination that makes young people anxious to get going with something.

Batman received the call. He was surprised Ted Kord was the one calling him but he received the call. He knew the League couldn't exist without a Batman and that's the main reason why he responded; that and he enjoyed being part of the Justice League of America. Though he wouldn't admit it, sitting in the Watchtower and watching for villains was something Bruce enjoyed. Though Flash got on his nerves and Hawkgirl constantly fought with Red Arrow, serving the League was a great thing for him.
"I'll be right up, Ted."
Batman used his old JLA communicator to contact the Blue Beetle and inform him that he would be coming up to join the League. Bruce slid his mask over his face and turned from the computer, facing his assortment of vehicles. The Batboat and the Batmobile would be of no use to him, as the Watchtower was in space. He walked over to the Batplane and hopped into the cockpit. The plane whirred to life and hovered off the ground. Alfred walked down into the cave just as the plane soared out of the Cave and into the air.
"I'm going to the Tower. Should anyone stop by, you know the drill."
"Expecting someone, Master Bruce?"
"No one specific."
Bruce turned off the computer in his Batplane, disconnecting the call with Alfred and shutting down his GPS. He knew where the Watchtower was and only God knew how many times he'd been up there. The damn Watchtower should recognize his Batplane by this point but for safety purposes, a code his needed. When he arrived, Bruce put the code in and flew into the hangar. The Batplane lowered until it landed on the ground and Batman jumped out. He wrapped his long cape around his shoulders and walked into the hallway, exiting the hangar.
Batman walked down the hallway with his cape wrapped around his body. His eyes were slim, signaling he was in deep thought. Memories of working with League in past swirled through his head as well as plans for the future. With Ted Kord leading, there was no telling what the League would be doing. His history with Booster Gold made Batman wary of his leadership skills. Rumors that the friends split in different ways floated around and Batman could see why Ted would take on such a hard role. Batman then entered the conference room and stopped dead in his tracks.
"Some League this is."
His voice was gruff and he sounded disappointed and upset with the roster. Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, Damage, Stargirl, Superboy, and Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle had experience with the League, Dr. Mid-Nite was a respected member of the Society, Hourman was the son of one of the greatest heroes of all time, Damage was the same, and Superboy is a clone Superman. Where were the League's usual members like Superman, Wonder Woman, Hal or Kyle, Flash, or Hawkgirl and Hawkman? Had they not gotten the call?
"Outside. Now."
Batman's narrow eyes were locked onto the man at the head of the circular table. He was the Blue Beetle, leader of this new Justice League. Why would he let the whole God damned Justice Society join the League? Didn't they have their own team? Batman didn't wait for answers. He turned around, billowing his cape as he did, and walked out of the room. In the hallway, he crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the blue-clad hero to join him. Ted would learn soon enough that no matter who assumed the role, Batman was the technical leader.

A Boom Tube crashed open, causing a loud ruckus. Crackles and crashed echoed through the Tower and strong winds lifted papers and some chairs off the ground and into the air. A brightly dressed man walked out of the Tube and into the Watchtower. As he stepped into the hallway, the Boom Tube imploded and shut. Mr. Miracle smiled and brushed off the front of his suit. He was ready to join the Justice League once more and help the world as the superhero he was. Mr. Miracle wrapped his cape around his shoulders, covering his body, and walked towards the conference room.
This is a great way to show the world that everyone is still the same hero they were before the War. I know that many heroes, by helping the nation, came off as intimidating and, quite frankly, scary.
Mr. Miracle, as he closed in on the meeting room, spotted Batman outside the room. Was he waiting to go in? Why would he be waiting? Was he nervous? He couldn't be; the Dark Knight never seemed nervous. Then, when Batman looked over, Scott saw that he was upset. Mr. Miracle merely nodded and opened he door. Inside, Blue Beetle appeared to be leaving and that Scott put two and two together, assuming Batman "needed to talk" to Ted. Scott flashed a warm smile to the hero and then sat down at the table.
"This meeting is to join the Justice League, right?! ahahaha! I'm kidding."
Immediately Scott let out his jokes. They were never that funny but they always seemed to brighten up the personality of those around him. It seemed Batman was the only one that didn't smile after Scott blurted out one his jokes. He couldn't help but make fun of the situation he was in. The only heroes in the room were former members of the Justice Society. Scott could now see why Batman seemed upset; he wants to help the League, not the Society. Mr. Miracle sighed and slumped in his seat slightly. This was going to be a long meeting.

Superboy sighed as "The Bat" entered the room. He was always so angry. That guy didn't know how to let go. He was always so concerned because he was on his little mission. God forbid he smile once in a while. It was like he had fallen into his life and there was nothing anyone could do to get him out. He was a definite buzz-kill, and with Blue Beetle here, Conner didn't see why they needed Batman. They were both equally smart, Beetle just wasn't obsessed with dark things and vengeance.
Conner heard Batman's little command. That upset him. Beetle was doing his best, trying to get a team together and going through all this trouble to help people, and Bats had to go get moody about it. What's wrong? Not enough of his super-clique around? When Batman left the room Conner sighed, relieved.
"Ugh. Talk about emo. I've known High School girls less dramatic than that big walking frown." Conner chuckled and offered a high-five to Grant.

Grant gave his all for that high-five. That was a good one, and he laughed accordingly. He looked around at the other people, see if they were as "cheery" as Bats outside the door. That annoyed Grant more than anything. Most of them had taken some kind of risk to get to the tower. It was in space for god's sake. You don't just ring up the operator and ask for the Watchtower's number to get a quick teleport up there. Though Grant was sure that was how most of them got there.
"Tell me about it man, Bats is bringing me down. We should call him Major Buzzkill." Not nearly as funny as what Conner had said, but it would work. Grant was of the opinion that there were way too many codenames with ranks and positions in them. The only ones who deserved it that he had ever known were Captain Atom and Doctor Mid-Nite. Atom had actually been a Captain and Mid-Nite was an actual doctor. If Batman was going to be like that the whole time, he wasn't going to stay.

Ted was able to warmly greet each new arrival as they entered, and was actually quite pleased with the turnout. Things were slowly, but surely, picking up steam. It would likely be days till they had a full roster, and some time before they were ready to do much of anything, but Blue was happy that he already had so many seats filled. He was smiling and talking when someone else entered the room. He looked up to see the ever grim Batman and couldn't help but feel his stomach turn. The man had that effect.
It felt like half a second before the insults began. "Yes", Blue Beetle nodded. "It is quite a team", he finished..turning Batmans snarky comment on it's ear. He was a lot like the man, to be honest. They were both billionaire inventors who fought crime, but Ted Kord was a genial man. He suspected it was why Tim Drake idolized him rather than the Batman himself. Ted Kord frowned and followed Batman out into the hallway, where he crossed his arms and stared up at the slightly taller man.
"You want to tell me we have a pathetic line-up. You want to tell me you're the real leader. You want to know why there are so many Justice Society members", he began listing the reasons for Batmans request to speak with him. "And all I can really say is...how dare you. How dare you act like this, Batman. It is not about how famous the names are on the roster. It is not about how much we like one another or who gets to put on the leader hat. It's about making a difference to the American people. The Justice League is more than it's members, I don't know if you know that...but it's more. If I can get even a small team together that symbolizes a lot. "
Ted was quite upset about Batmans behavior, and for good reason. He was sure old Leaguers would show up, just not at the drop of a hat. He was smarter than Batman, when it came down to it all, his IQ was higher. But it was Teds heart that often got in the way. "So you can go back in there and complain until you are blue in the face, but it took a lot of courage for them to show up...and I don't think either of us are in any position to underestimate them."
Blue Beetle sighed suddenly and began to go back into the room. "I hope you'll stay Bruce. I hear Supers, Flash and Aquaman will be coming by. And people will only follow you if they care about you." He smiled and stepped back in the room to reclaim his seat.

Batman figuratively fumed. His eyes narrowed even more as Blue Beetle began mouthing off to him, thinking he knew exactly why Batman needed to talk to him. All of his guesses were quite valid and they even showed how he felt about the League but none of the reasons he listed was why Batman actually needed to talk to Mr. Kord. It was clear Ted was upset that Batman wanted to ruin his fun at being Team Leader but anyone that reacts to situations on assumptions didn't deserve to be leading any team.
Batman crossed his arms and watched as the blue-clad hero continued mouthing off to him and eventually stormed off, back into the meeting room. Batman didn't move. He didn't react with a terrible temper, he didn't give up hope and storm off, and he didn't admit to his feelings. Rather, he pulled his cape back over his shoulders and around his body. After, he pushed the door back open and walked in, looking at each and every member at the table. He could tell none of them liked him or his behavior but he didn't care.
"I'm not finished, Ted."
That was all he had to say. He breathed out through his nose very slowly and then turned, letting the door close behind him. Batman walked towards the wall opposite him. He turned and faced he door where the Justice League of American was meeting. Batman cracked his neck and then his knuckles as he waited for Ted Kord to join him once more in the hallway. He knew he needed to admit to feeling the way Ted accused him off but he also had to get across what he tried to do earlier. Blue Beetle then joined him and Batman began.
"You're right, in many ways. I am disappointed by the turn-out of heroes but that is something I'm not going to argue about. The Justice League and the Justice Society have two clear purposes and that's why they're two different teams. Everyone in there should understand that. You're also right that it took courage for them to come here but they should have known before hand that I'd be here. Finally, don't you ever accuse me again or, i don't care who formed the team, you will be kicked off. I called you outside to tell you that it was nice to see you back on the team and leading them, better yet. Knowing you're record, keep in mind some still see you as the immature man you were when you were with Booster."
Batman walked past the shorter man and towards the door. He reached out to push it open but stopped. Batman stood, staring at the door for a couple seconds before reaching forward and pushing it open. He walked into the room and took a seat next to where Blue Beetle had been sitting. That was his chair and the chair he would always use whenever he was in the League. The seat Ted had taken was the one Superman always had used. Across from Bruce was Mr. Miracle, who was sitting in Hal Jordan's usual seat. Batman put his hands on the table and stood up, leaning against the table.
"This is the Justice League of America and, before we even begin the meeting, you need to know that it is much different than the Justice Society. We teach you how to fight; they teach you how to act. Assumptions aren't tolerated around here and neither is immaturity." Batman scanned the room, making eye contact with each member. "The War is over and we are here to make sure everyone on Earth knows that. Got it?"

"Now hold on for just one second there Bats." Rick was a little more than upset with this. He stood and spoke, passionately. "Each one of us from the JSA is here because we got kicked out on the street when the Society disbanded. It was join the Untouchables, or go solo. We're here because both the Society and the League were symbols of something greater than ourselves, and we would be there to preserve that symbol and the ideals it represented. The Society was a family, we were close, and we looked out for the American citizens when the League were off fighting monsters in space, when you and the others disappeared. The Society was an institution, just like this group, preserving the American spirit and acting as ambassadors, extending help where it was needed, or silencing criminals. The war isn't over Batman, we're still suffering from the after affects of the horrors committed. Now, more than ever, we need to unite and present an image of stability and hope, not just to the United States of America, but to the entire world." He paused.
"This is a rough time for all of us. Some of us have seen a lot, and I was hoping that by having several former Society members here, we could bring some of what we had back to the table. We need a place we can pool our resources collectively, and friends we can rely on. I've known some of these people for a few years, and I know that together we can take down any threat. We have to stand together, not just as professionals, as co-workers as it was with the league, but as friends, extending helping hands not just towards those outside our little club, but to the members inside. Blue Beetle sent out the call, and we were just the first wave, there will be more, I'm sure of it. The League represents an indomitable force of Justice in the world, but with members of the Society present, we bring the combined reputation of both respected groups into play. We can't be stuck in the way of thinking that either of us had, we need to be flexible, and adjust to the times. We have to hit with one hand, and help with the other. If you can't see past your own inflated ego, I think we can all agree that this new League won't last long." Rick sat down, finished. He looked at the table. Then spoke up again.
"And in case you forgot, every one of us was in the JSA was trained in part by Wildcat. I'd like to see you go toe-to-toe with him, rumor has it, he even trained you in your early days, and he never used gadgets, just a motorcycle." Rick crossed his arms, muttering under his breath. " 'We teach you how to fight, they teach you how to act.' Hah! that's a laugh."
