Chase new his chances of gaining employment by waiting at the Cauldron had gone. If he had let well enough alone he could probably have waited another day or so before having to move on. But no he had to stick to his code. And letting some one rape a female was definitely against it.
That was in fact the exact reason he was here under a bridge in Gotham city. It was as dark as he could possibly hope for and found the place to be an absolute dream. But even he had a purpose for being here to night. Tonight he was to meet with the young Cassandra Darcy. He had broken in to her office the night before. When the entire floor was empty and on her desk he left a simple note telling her when and where to meet him. He did not sign the note but the item he left with it was more then enough of a signature.
It was nine PM and he knew if she was going to show up it would bee soon so he waited. Still dressed in his black Gee. It had clearly been washed and pressed and the ends of it starched so it did not make a sound as he moved. Not that he was doing anything other then sitting on his rather nice black Daytona 2002.
I invite her to take along back up...

Curiosity sometimes got the better of Cassandra Darcy.
Well, okay - it always got the better of Cassandra Darcy. And in all honesty the curiosity sprung from her reception the previous night was overwhelmingly intoxicating. She had entered her office this morning all prepared to review the case files and instead found a note on the desk saying simply Bridge. 9 p.m. That alone would have piqued her interest but what sealed the deal was a shining, brand-new shuriken settled alongside the note. She had stared at it openly for a few seconds before picking it up and resting it under her sleeve. She didn't ask herself where she thought the note had come from or what its writer would want. She didn't need to. She had no doubt as to the identity of the writer, and as to his demands...perhaps he merely wanted to meet. Or explain why he'd so rudely taken off the other night. Either way, it wasn't like she had to be dressed nice or nothing...
Of course, as she neared the Bridge at 8:55 p.m that night, she was dressed in her black bodysuit and heels, her hair in a high and straight ponytail. Not her attorney suit, but something she could move freely in. The shuriken was in her sleeve and her powers were activated.
She glided wraithlike into the shadows of the Bridge, and cast her eyes about. They landed on a formless shape in the blackness, and Cass did the only thing she could think of. She pulled the shuriken into her hand and then moved it into the moonlight shining under the bridge.

"Ah Cassandra Darcy" he said as he smiled behind his mask for a moment "glad you got my message. For a moment I thought you may have been busy but your day planer did not have anything listed for today at nine" of course as she approached he knew something was wrong. He had an affinity for shadows he could feel where they were and how they embraced him but suddenly as she approached he felt or did not feel the shadow that laid over him.
“I trust that all is well? And that you have not bee pestered by any random gangs hoping to do harm to you?” he asked his right eye brow lifting up just enough to let it be known that he knew she had not. At least not by the same group of thugs that had jumped her last night.

"How did you get into my office?" Cass asked first, answering his question with a question. She moved out towards him; he would not hear any of her footfalls but he would see her lithely moving and see her eyes reflecting the light, catlike. She could tell from his face that he sensed something was happening to him - she had learned long ago to tell the subtle differences when someone sensed her powers and when someone was completely ignorant. What powers did this man have that she was masking, and what didn't he have that would make her vulnerable?
His golden eyes seemed to be tracking her movements, so she stopped walking forward and gazed at him closely. He still wore all black, clearly trying to stay in the shadows and hidden. She could see he had a strong face and broad shoulders. A true specimen of a man. So why was he so into the shadows?
"What do you want?"
The fact that he'd broken into her office made her nervous. She knew he'd know her name - though how he knew she would still have to ask. But what he wanted with her was a mystery and one she wanted to solve.

"That my dear is elementary Magic," he said with a face that suddenly split in to a grin. his weight shifting just slightly as she got closer, "Ninjutsu magic." his tone of course mad it clear that he had not intended it as a joke.
"I call my self shadow shift." he supplied to her before closing his large golden eyes and attempting to shift himself to the other side of the bridge only to find nothing happening. Only to confirm his suspicions about her. "I told you the truth last night I am here in search of a job as long as no one forces me to break my code."
Another short pause. “Had those men simply killed you I would not have batted an eye. But since their intention was to dishonour you the code gave me permission to take action.” Another short breath was let out and he moved a step closer to her. “The rest of the gang are dead in a house of forty-fifth street. Number two hundred and fifty-seven.”

Cass's brain whirled with the information, spinning and locking it into the compartments of her brain, doors opening and closing with the rapidlty of blinking eyes. She didn't bat an eye at his words of 'ninjutsu magic' - she had studied enough martial arts to know and trust the ways of the ninja. He was far more skilled at it than she, she was certain, because he didn't use it as a way to control himself. Ninety percent of her training she focused on controlling her powers. The other ten came in handy when she needed to get out of scrapes.
Listening to him now brought no smile to her face but a deeper curiosity threaded its way into her voice. She could see him trying to concentrate, trying to do something, but failing, and she nodded only slightly in acknowledgement of her powers. "Why do you feel the need to hide from me, Shadowshift?" she asked softly. "You saved my honour and my life, and made a warning of the rest of the gang. You called me here. And here you are...trying to stay in the shadows." She took another step to him, now very close. "What have you to hide?"

"The shadows are one of a ninjas best friends," he said as his eyebrow was again raised. She knew something about ninjutsu or she would have been more shocked at the thought that had they not tried to dishonour her he would have let them kill her. "They are my best friends."
"It would be simple for me to say that I am simply keeping my face from a figure of authority as I don't live by the laws set down and enforced by your judicial system," he told her with a chuckle. "Or I could tell you that light hurts" he said as he moved to the edge of the shadow and stuck his arm out in to the light that was reflected by a street lamp.
He was quick to pull up the sleeve to reveal his lightly bronzed flesh that after a few moments in the bright light became a deep red colour and then started to burn at the fine hair on that arm suddenly curled up and was burnt. At that point he simply pulled his arm back and smiled at her “I trust I have client Confidentiality in that mater”

Cass watched him burn himself in the light, utterly and completely fascinated by how red the skin got from mere moonlight, her eyes following the curlicues of smoke from the hairs sticking up along his arm. They also followed the lines of his arm, the muscles and curves, all the way into the shadows where the moonlight tricked against his eyes. With a deep sigh, she masked her powers, allowing him to fade into the shadows if he wished as well as hear her footsteps. "There are many secrets I keep," she said. "Consider yours a priority."
So he had killed those men because they had intended to dishonour her, not kill her. Cass didn't entirely understand, but she knew enough to suspect that dishonourment was worse than death. She could understand that one clearly.
"So, Shadowshift," she said, her voice dropped to a purr, "now that I've given you your shadows back, do you want to tell me why you sought me out?"
She wasn't intentionally trying to be seductive, but the situation the two of them were currently in definitely called for hushed voices and close heads. She wondered what sort of impression he was getting and found herself actually a little concerned about it.

"Thought you might like to know that it was a random attack that you fell in to," he said as he pulled his arms back in to the shadow the sleeves of his gee being pulled down to cover his arms the pain from it had not even been shown on his face "there was no planing to take you and there was no alternative motives" he said with a soft sigh.
"It took me a while to get the information it has been a while since I interrogated some one," he said as he let out a long deep sigh. “I am also here to offer my services to you at a reasonable price of course. I rarely work for free”

Cass believed him and didn't believe him all the way up to where he offered his services. She had no doubts that he was following up on the attack, but why she was so important to him was beyond her. He could have just killed the people and left it be. Or ignored the situation completely. And he'd interrogated someone - to find out about her. She had clearly piqued his curiosity just like he was piquing hers, and the more he talked the more curious she got.
When he offered his services, however, she tilted her head and and let out a soft chuckle. "You mean like a bodyguard?"
It was kind of a cheap answer, but really she wasn't sure why else he would come to her. She was a DA, it wasn't in her nature to just have people killed, which was what he seemed prone to do. And she doubted he was volunteering for her other hobby, the one that involved some time in Arkham Asylum.
So her name had become so well known to the criminal underground that someone had chosen to step up and try to protect her? That, she felt, was probably making too much out of he situation, putting herself too much in the limelight. But she really had no idea why he would offer himself to her in this fashion.

"My training has made me perfect for such a role yes" he said as he continued to look at her for a moment his lips curling up in a firm smile. "However I can be more useful to you then you may suspect. My entry in to your office must have proved to you that I am the perfect burglar I left no fingerprints no evidence of any kind. Other then my note."
He paused again before taking one step up to her and looking in to her eyes. "I am perfectly loyal as long as I am not forced to break the code. And can employ interrogation tactics that you are unable to use."

She'd been - right? He was offering to be her bodyguard? The idea was at once ridiculous and hilarious - and utterly enticing. Because she didn't need a bodyguard - as much trouble as she got into, she still managed to get out of it. But if she had a bodyguard she wouldn't need to worry as much about her own personal safety, and she could focus more of her time and mind on work - and of course play.
Not to mention his work at burglary. As a DA working with Rachel, Cass was used to getting things the hard way, after weeks or months of wearing someone down. Both verbally and physically, she could only wear someone down so much - and her tactics usually involved breaking someone out of reality, not breaking them down into bits of information. Interrogation tactics she was unable to use, ha. He'd suffocate under some of her tactics. Ninjutsu training held simplicity. Make things complicated and you won. Not that she was looking to break him, of course...
"Make no mistake, Shadowshift," she said as he stepped closer to her - their noses were almost touching now, she could feel the heat from his body and her nose quivered with his scent. "You don't survive in Gotham without knowing...a few tactics." Her eyes gave off a dangerous sparkle for a second before she began to smile.
In a lighter tone, she said "You may stay and eat at my house. You will have a cut of my check as payment. What is a reasonable price to you?"

“One does not survive all three world wars and not learn a few tricks,” he said as he closed his eyes and continued to smirk at her. She was smart he could tell that much her use of her body in such a way as to entice him made him feel so... Chase mind back on the job he yelled at him self inside his head.
"I’ll take a twenty percent cut of your check" he said as he nodded for a moment before taking a step to the side and twisting on around her as if he were dancing. "And I’ll have a room at your and house entry in to that room without my permission will be considered termination of our contract. I don’t cook and I don’t clean so don’t expect me to."

He closed his golden eyes and Cass wondered if he was about to kiss her when he suddenly turned to the side to circle her, muttering his terms. Cass closed her eyes, feeling the hairs stand up on her body in response to him. When she opened her eyes she still didn't see him, but she didn't enable her powers either. There would have to be a measure of trust between the two of them now, and as she was the DA she probably would have to show it first. "Twenty percent," she said in a steady voice. "As to the rest, I only need a bodyguard, not a housekeeper."
She spun to face him and stepped in close again. "Do we have a deal?"

"Good we have a deal then" he said as instead of leaning in to shake her hand or anything as remotely impersonally as that, he lifted his hand up and pulled down the cloth mask that hid his strong jaw line and rather powerful yet impassive face.
"Do you require transport back to your place?" he said as his golden eyes bore in to her face while he motioned towards his bike. “I a sure you I have long since become rather skilled in all forms of transport.”
